UNSEEN

whats going on behind the curtain?

Welp.

When I conceived of Unseen as the topic for October, I didn’t expect to go down this rabbit hole, but here we are and that’s that.

My brain often works double time and I quickly spiraled this way:

Initially I thought, yeah, October, Halloween, Samhain, Day of the Dead (which I know is November, but I’m taking some latitudes on this one). Who came before us, what did they gift us or harness us with, the things we can’t see but know are there?

Then I thought about all the other unseen forces in our lives.

I thought about the things that guide us that are not tangible.

And I thought about the ways we make ourselves unseen.

So this month is an amalgam of that. Examining the ways in which the unseen might steer our ship. Investigating the ways we keep ourselves in the realm of the unseen.

Just a reminder:

Instead of the monthly Open Studios, we are offering one 60 minute 1-to-1 session with me, Sarah, each quarter with your membership. Some possible ways you might use this:

  • You’d like to walk through a meditation or exercise you’ve struggled with

  • You want to work through a situation that’s holding you back

  • You need some suggestions for implementing a creative ritual

  • You have a question or a million about how this all ties to your situation.

  • Maybe you just want to chat. ANYTHING GOES!

If you scroll down you will see a section describing this. Just click the button to schedule a session. You’ll have a chance to give me any information that is relevant to our connection time—please do! I’ll show up with as many tools and tinctures as possible to add to your medicine bag.

We are always looking for ways to support your creative, spiritual journey, my friends. We always want to hear from you. If you have questions, roadblocks, issues or celebrations, don’t hesitate to reach out.

With love,

SRB

Small Kindnesses

I’ve been thinking about the way, when you walk
down a crowded aisle, people pull in their legs
to let you by. Or how strangers still say “bless you”
when someone sneezes, a leftover
from the Bubonic plague. “Don’t die,” we are saying.
And sometimes, when you spill lemons
from your grocery bag, someone else will help you
pick them up. Mostly, we don’t want to harm each other.
We want to be handed our cup of coffee hot,
and to say thank you to the person handing it. To smile
at them and for them to smile back. For the waitress
to call us honey when she sets down the bowl of clam chowder,
and for the driver in the red pick-up truck to let us pass.
We have so little of each other, now. So far
from tribe and fire. Only these brief moments of exchange.
What if they are the true dwelling of the holy, these
fleeting temples we make together when we say, “Here,
have my seat,” “Go ahead — you first,” “I like your hat.”
