FAQs
What is Bewonderment?
Bewonderment is the state of being awestruck by wonder. We believe that when we live in a state of bewonderment, we are more fully able to step into the unknown with grace and verve. To that end, we’ve created a system with tools, tonics, and tinctures to support the inevitable journey.
How do I know if Bewonderment is right for me?
First off, every single one of us has the ability to step into the transformative space that bewonderment cultivates. More than likely you do this without even knowing it. If you value introspection, interconnection and are committed to growth from the inside out, you are in the right place. Our seekers are looking for a transformative space to become more of what they already are and seek sacred systems to support them.
Where DO I start?
Our membership program is a great place to dip a toe in and begin creating a practice of bewonderment. It gives seekers monthly tools that are accessible and grounded to deepen their creative resources.
If you are looking for a more immersive experience, consider joining one of our retreats. You’ll then have the opportunity to dive deep into the exploration of your curiosity and growth edge, while creating a plan for how to integrate what you’ve experienced into your daily life.
Once you are feeling deeply supported by all your inner creative resources, you may be ready to share this mindset and heartset with others. Investing in the Bewonderment training program is a path to connect more deeply with yourself so you can share your brilliance with the world.
What if I’m not really a creative person?
Guess what? Everyone is innately creative. It takes practice to open up to your innate creativity, but that is exactly what we do in all our offerings. So you are definitely in the right place.
What results can I expect?
We deeply value process over product and believe that the journey is nearly always more instructive than the destination.
We believe we are plagued by an outcomes-based world, that better isn’t always best, and that sometimes stillness is the hardest journey of all.
That said, we’ve found that by accessing this state of being, seekers are able to retreat, reacquaint and rediscover themselves. By fueling self discovery, Bewonderment creates a ripple effect into our families, friends, colleagues, and communities. Those with a strong connection to bewonderment report an increased sense of empathy, lower anxiety, an ability to react with curiosity rather than judgment, and an increased sense of playfulness in their day-to-day life. All these things ripple into your community in innumerable ways.
What makes Bewonderment qualified to share this?
Our founder, Sarah Ratermann Beahan, has been researching, working, and playing in the space of Bewonderment for twenty years. She has extensive training in community facilitation techniques, grassroots community development, reflective listening, and equity and inclusion. Her research and experience in creativity and wellness have been woven into every step of her journey. This multidisciplinary skillset is what informs the systems of self-directed learning from a curious and questioning position. But most importantly, Bewonderment believes that you are your own best teacher and our workshops, membership programs, and training are designed to allow you to learn from your own deep inner wisdom.
Sarah has a Masters of Science in Rural Sociology/Community Development from the University of Missouri Columbia, a Masters in Fine Arts in writing from Goddard College, and a certificate in Organizational Change from the Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri. She has received multiple grants to support her writing from the East Central Regional Arts Council and the Minnesota State Arts Board and is the former Writer-in-Residence at Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts. She has been leading workshops in creativity, writing, and wellness around the world since 2011.
What is your experience teaching and learning across difference?
Bewonderment approaches what we do from an antiracist, intersectional, collaborative position. We work to dismantle our oppressive actions so we can show up wholly and in service to all communities, but most importantly the Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color that have been historically and continually abused in our white supremacist culture and system.
We commit to being open, hold ourselves accountable for our actions, behaviors, inclusive of intent and outcome. While Sarah has participated in numerous diversity and inclusion, ageism and adultism, and accessibility in education training, the work is never done. In the spirit of our value of process over product, we commit to always be learning.
